Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese braiding and cording technique. It means 'gathered threads' and involves the interlacing of threads, often silk, with the use of special frames. Originally it was part of the manufacture of Samurai warrior armour. It developed from there into items for fashion and jewellery. In this workshop we will use a foam disk to create different round braids. We will also help you to make a starting point to design your own braids. Everyone is welcome, and no prior braiding experience is required.
