Example of passementerieDoublets, trousers and other garments were often decorated and reinforced in the 16th and 17th centuries with many metres of trimmings: narrow ribbons of silk or wool, woven or braided.
During this workshop we get acquainted with the different weaving and braiding techniques and we make small examples of passementerie. In principle, participants do not need to bring anything, but anyone who has card weaving cards and/or a ribbon weaving frame can of course bring them.
This Wednesday morning workshop is given by Dorothee Olthof, an expert in the field of archaeological textiles and in the reconstruction of medieval and later clothing.
